FTHP BridgeBuilders receive training and access to resources that can help connect those in need to such things as transitional housing, legal services, physical and mental health care, addiction recovery, education, job training, job placement, childcare and more. FTHP doesn’t provide these services directly, but we partner with and identify other organizations that can help in these areas of need.
The BridgeBuilder role is based on relationship building – being there frequently, getting to know the people we serve, listening to their stories, becoming a friend, establishing trust and eventually understanding what a person needs to move forward and how to help make that move. Going “Beyond Breakfast” is not always finding a place to live or a job. It might just be lending an ear or offering a genuine smile and a hug on Saturday mornings. The majority of those on the street may not be ready or willing to do what’s necessary to escape homelessness. But by connecting with them in genuine and healthy ways our BridgeBuilders can and do go “Beyond Breakfast” to make a real difference in their lives.
